Federal Donuts

here are very few places that live up to the massive hype surrounding them.  Federal Donuts joins that small list of places where the food matches its expectations.  This small corner-sized store owned by Michael Solomonov is the latest addition to a series of local eateries that challenges the restaurant empires built by Stephen Starr and Jose Garces. The donuts are perfect: moist and cake like without being too heavy.  They’re also sweet but not too sugary.  The chicken is also outstanding.  The outside is crisp and flavorful without being too crunchy, and the chicken on the inside is warm and juicy, with all of the flavor sealed in.  The coffee is also pretty terrific, but plays second fiddle to the donuts and chicken.
